Nassau | Bahamas
When I first came here a few years ago, I remember I didn't think much of it. To be completely honest, I don't even remember that much from my last visit. Coming here again though, I really came to appreciate the many sides of this city. As a previous British colony, a big part of Nassau is still a relic of the past. My favorite place is hands down this alleyway of boutiques. As soon as I walked past the gates, I was hit by a sense of nostalgia for a time and place I'd never been to before. Maybe it was the gloomy day or the apprehension that a storm was coming but I absolutely fell in love with the ambiance here. If I wasn't with my family, I would have definitely wandered off to explore every tiny nook of this town.
Personally if I had a choice, I would definitely pick a small town instead of a resort city for a vacation. In my opinion, a resort is the epitome of capitalistic waste. Whereas a small town is a reservoir of cultural vibrance waiting to be explored. I think what really struck home for me was this tree. It might seem like any other tree to everyone else but it reminded me of the last time I visited my family's home in China. That was way back in middle school and surprisingly this tree reminded me of a vivid memory I had there. I remember it was like any other summer day and I was playing with my brother and cousin. We went downstairs with our badminton racquets and ran behind the building. Up a set of stairs and around the corner was an open square and at the center was this really old tree. The sun was shining brightly and glimmered between the leaves. Maybe it was because we were so small but to the us back then, it seemed like the tree was the tallest, most majestic thing in the world. It looked older than time and I felt like a fairy playing underneath its shade. I miss those pure blissful childhood moments. In maybe a few more months, I'll be back there again. I wonder how much has changed since then. For me and the tree...
