Those over there are mantis shrimps...not your typical prawn. They were freaking hunourmous and so very colorful too. I got curious about them and my friend thought I wanted to eat them lolz. Later she'd actually order this.... I was shocked with how much seafood there was on the street but these stores definitely make a lot of money off of tourists. |
The first dish we ordered was this deep-fried squid cake. I was expecting something creamy to ooze out like cheese but it had a fishball like consistency. It was pretty good because the texture was firm and bouncy at the same time. It was very flavorful as well. You could tell they made this themselves from scratch instead of buying fish paste from the seafood markets. I burned my tongue when I bit into this though. I didn't realize it'd be so hot but I guess since it's fresh... hahaa... |
Next ordered the mantis shrimp. My friend was really nice. Since I didn't know what to order, I thought a set menu was the best option but she thought I really wanted the mantis shrimp so she ordered this for me. So sweet of her. This was really good though. It's fresh mantis shrimp seasoned with salt and pepper. Jiu Yeem Lai Liu Ha. The annoying part was peeling it. Once I got the meat out though... it was heavenly. The meat is so much sweeter than regular shrimps and the taste was also more unique. I'm glad I tried it. |
We were actually quite full from our meal but they gave us a free dessert afterwards. Three different jellies ^^ The one on the left is a yakult jelly. I think Sing Kee is the only place that sells this. The next one is a chrysanthemum jelly and the last one is a lemon jelly. My favorite was the chrysanthemum jelly because of its simpleness. There's also the memory points because my mom use to make me chrysanthemum tea a |
Guess what I got? DRIED SQUID I have seriously grown to love these snacks since coming to Hong Kong. This is what I'd eat while I bashed away at papers in the wee hours of the early morning. Since they were fresh (I'm assuming this because they were also selling this out of a boat and it didn't look like manufactured processing), I bought 3 bags of this stuff, 2 barbecue and 1 original flavoring. This feels like the chinese equivalent of chips to me. |
When we finished exploring the harbour, we made our way over to Honeymoon dessert. This place has so many branches but the original one was in SaiKung and they definitely have amazing desserts. I got this mango pancake. It's a really thin fluffy mango flavored pancake that is wrapped around a fresh piece of mango and whipped cream. It was amazing. The natural sweetness of the fruit and the texture of pancakes went perfectly together. It was an amazing day with an amazing person. I'm glad this was one of my last excursions in Hong Kong. #noregrets
